Sofitel Barcelona Skipper: luxury and sustainability for your events

The new five-star Sofitel Barcelona Skipper on Barcelona’s seafront (at 10 Avenida Litoral) is full of surprises, starting with the enormous 300-sqm vertical garden on the outside of the building. The hotel’s focus on sustainability and events is clear. In fact, there is a whole floor for events, level minus one, which has an iconic glass pyramid on top reminiscent of the Louvre.

As a result, natural light floods into the foyer and main atrium, where anything from coffee to cocktails can be served. This new luxurious urban oasis is full of artwork and provides everything you need for an event: nine rooms with various capacities and vehicle access, premium catering overseen by Michelin-star chef David Andrés, 225 bedrooms (25 of which are suites), two terraces, two swimming pools (one on the roof with panoramic sea views) and a sophisticated ambiance attendees won’t forget in a hurry.

Seafront Barcelona location

The Sofitel Barcelona Skipper has been completely overhauled and is now a luxurious urban oasis full of artwork in La Barceloneta district on Barcelona’s seafront. One of the city’s main tourist spots, the Gothic Quarter, is just a 15-minute walk away. The hotel is also well connected with the train station and airport (a 20-minute drive away).

It has 225 smart bedrooms, 25 of which are suites with two areas and a range of works by local artists like Yaya Tur and Mario Ruiz. The suites are big enough for an informal meeting, press conference, product launch, etc. The rooms have a terrace and sea or pool views, and Superior rooms come with huge soundproof windows looking out at the fascinating city skyline. The mattresses specially created for the brand (Sofitel MyBedTM) provide maximum comfort. You feel like you’re floating on a cloud through the Mediterranean colours that contrast with the oak-finish floor in pure Parisian style.

And sustainability is a major focus: there are solar panels, a zero-plastic policy, cardboard and bamboo amenities, slippers with cork soles, wooden keys, leaflets and menus with QR codes, motion sensor lights, salt water electrolysis swimming pools, an anti-food waste programme, and more.

A whole events floor with nine rooms and vehicle access

Artwork and luxury are around every corner. Go down to level minus one, and you’ll find an events space with a welcome desk (specially for credentials) and the Welcome Manager is always available.

The foyer and atrium give the nine adjoining meeting rooms a dynamic feel thanks to the green planters and especially the natural light that floods in through the glass pyramid on the roof. This is reminiscent of the Louvre and is surrounded by a mural of Barcelona painted by street artist Albert Mir. The detail in this painting and the natural light mean clients can relax during coffee breaks or cocktails held in the atrium with the best catering, local produce and options to suit every taste.

Need different rooms and setups? The hotel has nine rooms with a variety of capacities to suit your different requirements. Given the number of rooms and how close they all are, it’s easy to arrange a plenary room and subcommittee spaces.

If you need plenty of space, you can join together the four biggest (partionable) rooms to create a clear neutral space for up to 800 people that’s customisable and free of columns. There is even vehicle access, which is perfect for motoring events.

If you’re looking for a very intimate and private space for a meeting, cocktails or informal meal, have a look at the five suites, two terraces with a swimming pool or the wine cellar at Tendiez restaurant, which has a wooden table for 12 diners.

Enjoy the best of Barcelona inside and outside the hotel

The beach is just 50 metres away! And you have two swimming pools within the hotel: one on the El Cielo terrace with panoramic views of the sea, and another, El Blue, which has played host to meals for 500 people.

There is also a buffet space for meals (which can be divided into areas including an outside terrace) as well as the Tendiez restaurant. Enjoy a gourmet tour of Barcelona with the menu of local ingredients put together by chef José Sánchez with oversight from the young Michelin-star chef David Andrés. From the bar, you can see into the open kitchen and appreciate the cooks’ work while you savour dishes like octopus bites and lobster croquettes.

Major events like the Mobile World Congress and IBTM choose Barcelona for its modernity and the endless experiences on offer.

Outside the hotel, the city of Barcelona is close at hand. We recommend activities like a guided tour of Gaudí’s eleven buildings, an aperitif and a glass of cava on a luxury catamaran at sunset, or a stroll around the Boqueria Food Market for an explosion of colour and taste…
