Porto: an exotic seminar under the Portuguese sun

Porto: an exotic seminar under the Portuguese sun

Welcome to the city of bridges, churches, Azulejo tiles, bakeries and wine... The capital of northern Portugal offers a variety of options for all kinds of events. Just make sure wine features somewhere! After all, who hasn't heard of Porto's wines?

Surrounded by the River Douro and the Atlantic Ocean, there are plenty of reasons to fall in love with Porto including its wines, its rich heritage and culture, outdoor activities, and venues for all tastes, from the traditional to the contemporary. The city even has a distinctive cruise terminal available for events!

Many professional events are held in Porto because of its varied venues: Palácio da Bolsa (for receptions, gala dinners and conferences), Centro de Congresos Alfândega (the old customs site with different rooms suitable for anything from trade fairs to congresses and presentations), and more modern sites like Casa da Música (an unusual music hall) and a cruise terminal which, as well as welcoming ships, is designed in a groundbreaking style and can be reached by going around the city’s park and beaches.

Accessibility

Porto is easy to access from most countries. Porto’s Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport is located 8 miles north of the city.  Take the time difference intp account, but on average flights from Madrid take an hour, and flights from Paris and London take two hours. You can also travel by bus (with Eurolines) or by train. Even if you don’t arrive in Porto by train, we still recommend a visit to Porto São Bento station, with its 20,000 impressive Azulejo tiles in the vestibule. Another unusual way to travel to Porto is along the Douro River on one of the many river cruise ships. If you have enough time, this is a worthwhile option.

Incentive activity ideas in Porto

No visit to the region is complete without some kind of wine experience. Porto’s traditional wineries, which are mostly on the other side of the river, offer visits and tastings. If you’re looking for something different and bespoke for an incentive trip, the wineries high up in the valley grow local grape varieties and do their harvesting by hand. Some even stomp on the grapes to crush them!  The combination of a boat trip on the Douro River, a vineyard visit and a tasting will leave quite an impression!

Porto’s small old quarter covers a few streets, which you can criss-cross in vintage trams. Higher up in the city, you’ll find the area with the most landmarks. This is the perfect place for a tour taking in churches and civil buildings clad in Azulejo tiles, with a stop at a bakery and some showcooking to teach participants how to make Portugal’s famous pastel de nata. The Dom Luis I bridge built by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel is the place to be, with the best views at sunset.
