2016: a record year and a year of diversification for Accor

Our CEO, Sébastien Bazin, presented the group's results for fiscal 2016 at the end of February. A year punctuated by major acquisitions, with the aim of strengthening our leadership in the luxury hotel industry, breaking into the lifestyle hotel segment and positioning ourselves in the luxury segment of the private residence rental market with hotel services.

With the opening of more than 80,000 rooms, the year 2016 represents a record development. « Never before have we opened so many rooms in one year...« said Sébastien Bazin. Our operating income increased by 4.6 points to 696 million euros and our sales amounted to 5.6 billion euros, an increase of 0.9 points.

 

Become the world leader in luxury hotels

The acquisition of the emblematic group at the end of 2015 Fairmont Raffles Hotels International (FRHI), we have an unrivalled portfolio of prestigious establishments, including 155 hotels and resorts of the brands Raffles, Fairmont & Swissôtelof which 40 are under development. These very high-quality establishments, combined with strong expertise in luxury hotel marketing and a significant presence in the North American market, strengthen the Group and its development prospects. The second key event of the year was the signing of a strategic partnership with the company Banyan Tree Holdingsbased in Singapore.

Making inroads into the Lifestyle Hotels sector 

In parallel with our development in the luxury sector, in November 2016, we took a further step in our strategy to become a world leader in lifestyle hotels. To achieve this, we have joined forces with one of the best players in this sector, 25 Hours Hotels. « We were immediately won over by these unique, designer boutique hotels, which offer excellent working conditions for urban nomads and an ideal starting point for going out in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin or Zurich.. ", explains Sebastien Bazin. A positioning that has already been strengthened with the creation of a new lifestyle brand named « Jo & Joe The "Millennials" offers modern and welcoming hotels to experience the hotel business in a different way. A bit like a real Spanish hostel where everyone will find what they are looking for.

 

TO POSITION OURSELVES IN THE LUXURY SEGMENT OF THE PRIVATE RESIDENCE RENTAL MARKET WITH HOTEL SERVICES

Another momentum in our transformation towards new uses in the hotel and travel industry is the development of high-end private residences with hotel services. A turning point that began in February with the strategic acquisition of 49%'s strategic equity interest in the capital of Squarebreaka French start-up created in 2013, offering stays in high-end private properties located in top tourist locations, mainly in France, Spain and Morocco. But it was in April that we made our most strategic acquisition with the purchase of Onefinestaya world leader in this luxury segment. Business and leisure travelers can reside in one of the 2,600 ultra-select private properties selected and benefit from a 24/7 customized service in the most beautiful areas of New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles or Rome. And more recently, at the beginning of the year, we also acquired 100% from TravelKeysa specialist in the rental of luxury private residences. Accor thus puts itself in the position of always better understanding the expectations of a client in a sector where the experience of the stay and the quality of service is of considerable importance.
